Conductor

Amy studied conducting with John Longstaff at Huddersfield University, but essentially began to pursueConductor1 her love of choral conducting with Sing for Pleasure during their annual summer schools.  This passion was further reinforced during the Art of Choral Direction course under the direction of David Lawrence at Canford Summer School.

"Amy Bebbington is one of the brightest talents of her generation. She is a generous musician who exhibits with consistency both her passion for music, and a desire to bring out the best in those with whom she works. Amy is a skilled conductor and gifted communicator; working with her is such a pleasure!"

David Lawrence, conductor

Having completed the six-month ABCD conductor’s course (2001), under the leadership of Peter Broadbent, Therees Tcak-Hibbard and Jo McNally, Amy knew that choral conducting was to become a mainstay in her life.  She  graduated as a Doctor of Musical Arts, specialising in choral conducting, from Texas Tech University in 2005, under the directorship of Dr. John Dickson.
Amy now tutors for The Association of British Choral Directors on their Initial and Intermediate Choral Conducting courses. She directed the Young Choral Conductor’s Course at the ABCD conventions in Chester (2007), Lincoln (2008) and Birmingham (2011).

"The students were being encouraged, cajoled, enthused and enlightened by someone in whom I immediately recognised the rare talent of an instinctive and gifted teacher – Amy Bebbington. Amy seemed to have that pricesless ability to inculcate in her charges a feeling that they can do it. I had gone along mainly to observe the students but found myself captivated by Amy's combination of inspirational motivation and thorough professionalism."

                                                                                                 Mike Sheppard, Composer

In Feburary 2009, Amy was invited as a guest choral clinician to work with Charlotte Jackson and the Amabile Girls Choir, Choir of the Year 2006. In the summer of 2011, Amy worked alongside Greg Beardsell with the National Youth Choir Training Choir.
Amy enjoys forging strong rapports with her choirs. She strives to achieve high musical standards whilst also maintaining a sense of fun.  Having directed and sung in many choirs both in the UK and the USA, she believes she has a solid understanding of what makes a choir tick!

"Your enthusiasm, energy and persistent good humour have done much to re-invigorate us"

Peter Harvey, Stone Choral Society

"The variety of warm-ups, the expectation of improvement, the confidence you show in expecting us to do better, and the balance of appreciation and criticism comes over as a great encouragement. I like the sense of challenge – all, I like, very much!"
