Animateur

Having successfully completed numerous training courses focusing on children’s music education, Amy specialises in working at Key StageChildren2 2.  She has studied with Sue Hollingworth, Michael Stocks and Susan Digby, each of them leaders in the field of Primary Music Education.  Amy's teaching relies heavily on kinaesthetic approaches and draws on elements from Kodaly- and Dalcroze-based techniques.  If you would like to arrange a workshop with your children, or teacher training with your staff, please get in touch.

Amy has delivered a wide-range of projects as both vocal animateur and teacher trainer over the past ten years, working for organisations such as:

  • Trinity College/Open University (Continuing Professional Development, KS2 Music)
  • Sing Up (teacher training)
  • Youth Music (Drop in the Ocean Teacher Training, Yorkshire)
  • Sing for Pleasure (children’s singing events)
  • Glyndebourne Education and Community Projects
  • YoungChoirs.net (2-year vocal project, Wakefield)
  • Yorkshire Youth and Music (Sounding Out Project, Yorkshire)
  • Youth in Unisong (Birmingham Symphony Hall, 2001, with Rebecca Lawrence)
  • Halton Borough Council (a broad range of themed vocal projects)

During 2006-7, Amy worked in 22 schools across Runcorn and Widnes, delivering vocal projects and workshops to many thousands of children.  Performances covered the following topics:

·         Sing Africa (African songs with percussionists)

·         Fit Food Five (composed by Brendon Renwick)

·         This is our World (compiled songs about conservation)

·         All over the world (compiled songs from all around the world)

In 2005, Amy facilitated a six-week school project in St John’s Primary School, Lincolnshire.  Each week, she visited 400 children from Early Years through to Year 6. In culmination, repertoire ideas and good vocal teaching practises were shared with all the staff.

“You always had an excellent rapport with the classes you taught, keeping them interested with material suitable for their age and stage. You were very positive in your comments thus encouraging them to want to participate, especially in singing by themselves. You were able to set a very good example by expressing high expectations, and you delivered your subject with ease and competence.”

Elizabeth Willett – Music Co-ordinator at St. John’s Primary School, Lincoln

Some of the feedback received from delivering Teacher Training courses for the Trinity/Open University CPD courses in KS2 Music:

An excellent range of activities which were carefully directed by the trainer.  A very useful and enjoyable session.

Really enjoyed the workshop.  Very well delivered and engaging.

Amy was very confident and obviously had a lot of knowledge and experience which was inspiring!

Ideas and activities were very informative – singing rhymes especially.

Thank you for the refreshing and inspiring workshop.

Amy was absolutely fantastic!  Thought the whole session was brilliant!

I can't remember being on a course that I have enjoyed so much. You are a very talented lady with an infectious love of music. I found you very inspiring and have not stopped thinking of all the things that we learnt.
